The occupation municipality lights up the walls, streets, and Old City of Jerusalem every year during the "Light Festival.” The Festival started on Wednesday, June 3 and ran until June 11. It consisted of 4 routs: Damascus Gate, Jerusalem Castle, an Ottoman building in a-Sharaf neighbourhood, and an ancient church near the ancient a-Nabi Dawood Mosque.
On Wednesday, June 3, Palestinian Jerusalemites were mobilised in the Jerusalem is Ours carnival that took place in front of Damascus Gate in response to the Judaizing Light Festival. Jerusalemites argued that the Light Festival aims to obliterate the Palestinian identity of Jerusalem and to change the history by Judaizing the city”.
“Jerusalem is Ours” Carnival included many cultural and entertainment activities, flying balloons, giving away presents, and cultural Palestinian music. The IOF attacked and arrested three Palestinians during the Carnival and fired stun grenades against people causing many injuries among Palestinians.
